MOTORBIKES

The photos below are of WWI Military Despatch Riders outside the Wesleyan Chapel, East Back, opposite the East Back Engineering Works of J & A Stephens.  They are reproduced by permission of Peter Hurlow-Jones, whose Aunt rode such a bike.

Listen to Peter telling the story.

SOME OLD CAR STORIES

The photograph above belongs to Mr Tony Thomas - it belonged to his father and was taken at the time of WWI. I have since been informed that it was a Model T Ford.

Again, Tony Thomas' father's car, a military vehicle, during the same period.

Miss Joyce Colley remembers the first family car - a Humberette.  It belonged to her brother but unfortunately no photographs exist.

It looked like the above photograph. And below are the other two vehicles mentioned in her story - a Clyno and a Trojan

A Clyno A Trojan

Miss Colley also recognised the car parked in front of the bus in the picture below as one owned by her father.  There is a story attached - she tells me it is still in the family.

And here it is - a recent photograph!

Just 17 and passed the driving test in this Standard Companion. Linda Asman tells the story.

And here is another story about a very special vehicle - a seventies story about the Red Cross Ambulance which performed an unusual service.  Vera John tells the story.
