The Bicycle

Early bike photos of Pembroke have been difficult to find.

CORBETT'S BIKE

The photograph below belongs to Peter Hurlow-Jones and shows his great uncle Corbett Stephens pedalling a bicycle to which is coupled  a passenger’s wicker chair mounted between two wheels the same size as those on the bicycle.

The Family Firm of J & A Stephens sold bicycles as can be seen from the memorandum pad below.

THE DURLEY PEDERSEN

Another early bike tale from Ian Campbell whose uncle owned Campbell's Garage sited in Main Street.

MY TRIKE

As there appears to be a dearth of bike photos I'll tell you about one of my own.  This photo must have been taken around 1953-4 and shows me on my trike – a sturdy little first vehicle for children having 3 large wheels.  Very stable unless you whizzed around corners too fast – as you did!
