Town Trail

The Pembroke Civic Trust have devised a Town Trail which it is hoped can be revamped and extended.
In 2006 a project was conceived to tell the history of Pembroke through a series of carved stone friezes depicting stories of Pembroke through the ages, with bronze copies set at appropriate points on the Town Trail. Local sculptor, Perryn Butler, was commissioned to carry out the sculptures, engaging the community to research the stories.
A Sculpture Trail is an exciting prospect but an aim we can only achieve if we can attract additional funding. We also want to attract local writers to tell the stories dramatically, to flesh out the facts and find the real people beneath. Historical events have traditionally been told through story and art.

PAINTING THE PEMBROKE STORY
Traditionally ballads were sung of great events which were celebrated in sculpture, murals and paintings. These powerful mediums have universal appeal and are central to our concept.
Throughout history great events have been depicted through art and we are fortunate that we have, in Pembroke, two artists who have been doing just that for Pembroke.
They are George and Jeanne Lewis who are pictured below against the backdrop of one of their murals with the Mayor of Pembroke, Gareth Jones, and Project Officers Nikki Anderson and Linda Asman.

So, when you visit Pembroke Town Hall you are in for a treat. Covering the walls are painted friezes depicting 10,000 years of Pembroke's history from Cave Dwellers to the Second World War by George and Jeanne Lewis. |
